Snow and trees

Purgatory opened new terrain this year that is truly breathtaking.  It comes with it’s own set of suggestions.

Bob doesn’t like it.  His initial stance was that I not do it alone; we agreed instead that he knows where to look if I don’t come back from skiing (already covered by Suggestion #2, Ski with a friend and Suggestion #4, If you are injured in this area, rescue times might be greatly increased.)

It’s addictive.  The trick is not to look at the trees, but at the spaces between them.

In real life, you can choose a path by avoiding obstacles.  But in steep snow and trees you have to let the opportunities determine your path, not the obstacles.   You have to rely on your choices, not your fears.

You see the space when you’re skiing, and the trees when you stop…

too beautiful to be believed.

Those spaces between the trees look very narrow. You must do a lot of bobbing and weaving to get through. Are you on skis or snowboard? In any case it looks mighty scary to me!

Just what is mermaid hair? It is interesting and quite pretty.

The “mermaid hair” is what it looks like to me–it’s like Spanish moss. Does anyone know what it’s called?

Hi Alice! Beautiful indeed! May I use photo number 4 for some kind 0f art project? Are those trails for X country skiing? If not Guess I’m a big chicken! And isn’t that mermaids or witches hair lichen? Can’t wait to see puppy photos! Hi Tina and Barb! Been some winter, huh!

Definitely a lichen, but I don’t kow the name! Please help yourself to photos, Pat. These pictures are all from a downhill ski trail: one looks down the hill, one looks up the hill, and the one you like is looking diagonally across the hill with a very steep drop in the foreground. Tina, I don’t think I’ve seen a snowboarder on this trail/ the turn radius is almost too small for them (I ski).

Oh, oh caution is in order until you reach the bottom and take off your skiis.
    But so beautiful and alluring.

I know I’m not nearly accomplished enough to ski this (!), but it looks amazing. Tree skiing is so much fun, but I’d need a little more space. Have fun, and be careful.

HI mvPat and Tina C, too! and Hi to all of your other readers, too.

I have attempted tree skiing on my telemark skis and inevitably bail because my brain registers what I’m doing and thwarts my courage. I admire truly skilled skiers such as yourself that make it look so easy!
