The snow is receding and people are feeling more hopeful about spring, but the deer and elk are entering their hardest time: their fat is gone, the graze is gone and there’s no new food to browse on. There have been two hungry elk hanging around this week, and this morning one of them was grazing out back. My flower bed starts at the snow line. This is a giant beast.
I took these pictures through a window, and the elk didn’t know I was there.
I got a beauty shot,
and a cutie shot, but when I went outside all I got
was a faraway shot of a ribby elk running away.

Incredible! Have a great weekend and can’t wait for the new pup to be featured! ps. Snowdrops have been blooming here since late January!
You’re so lucky! Nothing here yet…
Alice,
We have had record breaking cold weather in North Florida. Second coldest winter in recorded history. Plenty of rain to restore the aquifer to good health. It has been cold here, but not pretty like SW Colorado. Would love to see your part of the state.
Your blog is always filled with very interesting and well done photographs. Just love it.
I am waiting for the puppy stories and photos.
I never realized how big elk were until I saw them in Colorado once. You’re photos are amazing.
Nothing is blooming here yet, but I remain optimistic!
Like Mistergee I am looking forward to a puppy photo and story.
Hey Alice! I just came from the7msnranch site and Linda just got a chicken tractor!! Never saw one before, but, what a fantastic idea! Hope all is well with you. Sunny and in the 50’s here on the island today.
Pat, I love those chicken tractors! I gave my chicken hoop house and the last of my chickens to a friend that lived on a fenced property, and the rest of them disappeared this winter. She thought they were taken by an eagle, who left behind no trace but the mark of a wingbeat on the snow.
WOW !! : @
