Wow! The snow was a big surprise - this seems very late. Do you often get snow this late in May or this somewhat unusual for you? Your photos are wonderful - thanks so much for sharing them with us. As someone else noted, great photos and we learn a lot from your postings. Thanks so much.

Barb, the oldtimers say that snow in any month isn't out of the question. I go by our last frost date of June 1, so I can't say that I'm entirely surprised. The iris were, though. Alice

Oh, snow on the iris!
A huge thunderstorm rumbled through Iowa and battered the few I have blooming overnight. And it is supposed to storm tonight, too. I'm hoping the rest of the blooms will stay snug in their tight spikes until this unsettled weather passes.
Last year, we had a late spring freeze that killed some of my more delicate hybrid iris and there were no blooms at all. From the buds it looks like I could have a bounty this year, if only the weather would cooperate. I have been known to go out at night, between storms, to photograph my most beautiful blooms ... not the best, shooting with a flash ... but better than no photos at all.
