It is likely that she didn't realize how fragile chicks are. When they are roosters, if they're anything like the ones we had on the farm in Arkansas, they will be able to hold their own. Dogs avoid being "spurred" by plucky roosters.

Shirley, she's a Bernese Mountain dog--they don't last long, but they're each as sweet and pretty as the next. </description>
